Initially, Cango Wildlife Ranch started off as a crocodile show farm and in 1986 it was bought by Andrew and Glenn Eriksen. 1988 saw the birth of The Cheetah Preservation Foundation to highlight the plight of the endangered cheetah. Today more than 170 cheetahs have been born at this facility and the Ranch’s many visitors are given the opportunity to become actively involved in and form part of The Cheetah Preservation Foundation. There are various memberships that guests can choose from and their financial contribution helps the Ranch to provide as best they can for not only the animals resident at the Ranch and breeding centres, but also enables CPF to become actively involved in various programmes across the globe.
On a guided tour multilingual guides escort visitors through the enticing Valley Of Ancients which houses various exotic and endangered animals including the Cape Vulture, Madagascar Lemur, Greater Flamingo, Spotted-necked Otter, Pygmy Hippo, Marabou Stork and, of course, the infamous Nile Crocodile.
Cheetahland, home to various big cats, including cheetah, Bengal tiger and African, as well as the rare White lion also forms part of the tour and from a raised walkway, visitors have a birds’ eye view of these magnificent creatures.
The Ranch also offers the very popular Natural Encounters programme where visitors are given the unique opportunity to interact with a variety of ambassador animals. When participating in this programme visitors can stroke a cheetah or even personally meet a Bengal tiger cub or two when cubs are available. For the adventurous at heart Crocodile Cage Diving with 4 meter Nile crocodiles is a sure fire way to get the adrenalin pumping or you can try to sit still while a python wraps itself around your shoulders!
Boredom is not an option at the Ranch with such a variety of fun things to do and see. To capture your special moments, a professional photographer will take a complimentary picture of your Encounters and we can even print it for you on a coffee mug or a t-shirt.
Cango Wildlife Ranch boasts two restaurants with delicious treats for the entire family, a children’s play and water park where the kids can run wild while Mom and Dad is able to enjoy a meal whilst keeping an eye on the children.
No visit to Oudtshoorn is complete without having visited the Cango Wildlife Ranch. Take a walk on the wild side for sheer thrills!
